What is Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) ?
The 2019 spring festival start from February 4th- February 10th, 2019.
Chinese New Year, also called Spring Festival which marks a new year on the lunar calendar. It is the oldest holiday in China which has over 4000 years of history , and it is also the most important festival for Chinese people . The festival begins officially on the last day of the last lunar month and ends on the 15th day of the first lunar month (the Lantern Festival), lasting for around 16 days .
Before the Spring Festival, the Chinese people will clean their houses thoroughly which represents a wish to bid farewell to the old year and welcome good luck in new year . At the same time , every family will go shopping to prepare festival items before new year starts .

Most street, building, and house is decorated with red. Red lanterns hang in streets, Red couplets and red Fu Character are pasted on doors, buildings are decorated with red New Year pictures depicting images of prosperity.

Wherever you are , you are expected to back home from work or study to celebrate the festival with families, the Chinese people will return home even if traveling across a long distance, so you will see the transportation is greatly crowded , especially the railway which it is very difficult to obtain a ticket during the Spring Festival Rush (also called Chunyun in Chinese) .
At the New Year's Eve (last day of last lunar month), family members will sit together to enjoy the rich food which called "reunion dinner" . After the dinner, families often sit together and chat happily, setting off firecrackers, giving lucky money to children as New Year gifts , ringing the New Year bell and sending Chinese New Year greetings to relatives and friends , and staying up late to watch CCTV's New Year Gala to wait the New Year's coming .

On the first day of the New Year, people will eat dumplings or tangyuan , wearing new clothes , visiting their ancestors' graves to sweep away the dirt and burn incense and paper money to remember the dead , bring gifts to visit friends and relatives to greet them with congratulations , wishing each other good luck and happiness in the whole year , these activities will last for 15 days . In 15th day of first lunar month, there will be various Lantern fairs and Lion Dances at night , so people will go out with family after dinner to watch Lanterns and Lion Dances on the streets .


After official Spring Festival ending, people will travel back to work or school , but for most Chinese people , they will have to back for work in advance , the transportation is crowded too .
