Hurricane Connecting Rod Bolt Information
Bolt connect rods with caps. Besides rods self, choose right bolt is also very important. All of our Hurricane H-beam, X-beam and I- beam connecting rods use ARP bolts or Hurricane bolt designed specifically for the rod they are installed in. Underhead length, thread length, undercut diameter and length, and shank length all play an important role in the dimensional stability of the bearing housing.
If you need replacement connecting rod bolts, they can be purchased direct from Hurricane, ARP or through any of our dealers at very affordable prices. We strongly recommend using the correct bolts that we have designed for our rods when doing bolt replacement maintenance. Using the wrong bolt is risking failure due to incorrect clamping load or thread engagement.
Use of any other type of lube requires using the bolt stretch method for proper installation.

How to choose bolt?
1. ARP8740 Bolts
This is ARP’S lowest price bolt, while still being much stronger than a stanard 8 bolt, it it primarily used in lesser applications. It has a 180,000# strength
This is a bolt using for performance rods with competitive price, $3.5USD/piece. By using 300M material, the tensile strength could reach 270,000PSI.
This is standard in most of our forged rods. Very good quality and has a 220,000# strength
Used mostly as a bolt upgeade in forged rods. Used in high stress applications and has a 260,000# strength.
5. ARP Custom Age 625 Bolt
Used as an upgrade in performance, especially custom rods. They are very expensive. However, it is a must for the most extreme applications and has a 280,000# strength.
